Before I respond I would like to state I'm a gun owner and have owned in the past what is considered assault rifes (AK47, Bushmaster .ect..) I no longer own the long rifles as a matter of personal reasons. So I answer this as a person who is a gun owner in America.

I don't agree with your viewpoint at times but am glad that you actually state some suggestions to gun control. Too often I see just generalize statements such as we need "gun control". Thanks for giving specifics. Most of the gun control advocates on this site are ignorant of current laws and regulations that are in place.

I don't have a problem with it and this is already done in some jurisdiction. Only detail I would stipulate is only the government has the list. The media created a map and posted online of all registered gun owners in I believe New Jersey. It was an attempt of shame and was politically motivated. It served no other purpose. This database must be private for me to support it.

All guns are registered by the manufacturer to the retailer they sell it to. The retailer also keeps on file an ATF 4473 form of who they sell it to. What you probably want is a national database for each gun. This would have to be managed by the government. I own 9 guns and they are all private sells with the exception of one. In other words the only record on file for me is one gun. Private sells don't require an ATF 4473, hence to gun show loop hole

Law was passed in California. I personally don't care but bullet markings will change as the gun is in use so probably in long run won't be of any benefit.

This is the most unreasonable proposal you've made and not original is it has been in the Senate before. If such legislation was allowed the gun industry would become bankrupt. This proposal is only made for that purpose alone. It is absolutely impossible for any manufacture in any industry to control who has their product and how that individual uses that product. Gun manufactures like most manufactures sell to retailers or wholesalers who then in turn sell to the public.However, I do believe a gun manufacturer should be held legally responsible for a gun that discharges incorrectly and causes injury. Which that law does exist.

This is a very complicated issue but I understand what your stating. However keep in mind we have HIPAA laws in place. Additionally you are basically requiring the government to keep a database on every person in our country that has any form of mental illness. You then want the government to decide what constitutes a mental illness. Additionally in the medical field (which I'm in) mental illness is considered curable. Slippery slope argument is a valid argument though many disagree. If our government is allowed to form huge databases on mentally ill citizen the slope may slip on registering other "undesirables". On ATF 4473 11f it does stipulate purchasers that been legally declared as mentally incompetent are unable to purchase. I don't believe in the argument of confiscation as such a thing would be impossible in our country. However forming a national database on the mentally ill could lead to other justified databases (which probably already exist). Again the only way to stop mentally ill people from purchasing a gun is to have a national database for the gun retailer to check against.

So over all I don't have a problem with what you have suggested as I've heard them before. I'm totally against suing manufacturers because someone was murdered using their gun. If the manufacturer sold the gun to the person then fine, but they don't typically sale to the general public. However it is the retailer that sells the gun and they are held accountable as you have proposed.

Keep in mind that there are over 400 million guns in the hands of Americans. So it is very unlikely that your proposal would be possible. However it is a start as you stated. I just don't see 200+ million Americans complying with registering guns that the government has no clue who owns them. There are more guns in this country than people. The only solution to gun violence is the complete abolition of gun ownership such as was done in Australia. It won't happen in this country anytime soon.

There are more educated members on this forum than the entire top leadership within the JW religion. I never knew but a handful of elders with degrees. Most of the Elders I knew earned their degree prior to joining. In the top echelons the most educated are going to be the lawyers. Notice how the Governing Body has to quote other experts and never themselves or credit any research article that they were involved in. I doubt any of them can expertly read or write in any of the ancient bible languages.

I remember one school overseer with a degree in Journalism, an accomplished TV personality. what a difference a degree makes.

I knew an Elder in Ft. Myers Florida that fit that profile. He was a local new anchor and gave talks at the circuit. He is now retired.

It would depend where the degree was offered. I would imagine earning a degree in theology at Harvard wouldn't be easy. Trying to learn Hebrew, Ancient Greek, and other bible languages would be difficult for most. In addition to field experience requirement the program isn't easy. Then again a theology degree offered online by a non accredited school would probably be hard to fail.

So ... Russia and Nato at war? Should we be worried?

it seems unbelievable but turkey (a nato member state) shooting down a russian jet fighter on their syrian border seems to be "meh" news and no one is too bothered about it too much.. the world seems a bit upside down right now.

i don't think a lot of countries really know who the hell they are fighting and who is and isn't on their side in it all and really what is going on.. smaller incidents than this have led to major conflicts in the past but hopefully calm heads will prevail.

china shot down a us spy plane years ago and the world survived and forgot about it so things will move on i'm sure.. i'm guessing the price turkey pays for their gas supply from russia will be going up soon though.. man, that republican primary is sucking all the news attention from the room.

she seemed to think that it would be so much better if women were just daughters/ wives/ mothers and didn't go out to work and have career's?

My wife would rather stay home, and once I'm done with college she probably will. We want another child and our current one is two years old. I have a few former co-workers who became stay at home dads. I don't know a lot of women that didn't want a job or career.

What do you think minimum wage should be?

I don't know as it is beyond my expertise.

I do believe mid to large size companies (50+ employees) in America could easily afford to pay $10 or more an hour and remain profitable. Perhaps $15 an hour is reasonable I don't know nor am I arguing against it.Wages and minimum wage specifically has not kept up with inflation. My only argument is the solution to income disparity and wealth isn't as simple as raising the minimum wage. Addressing wealth inequality involves tax reform, controlling cost of consumable items, and medical cost among other issues.

Again I'm really interested in seeing in 2018 and 2019 the impact Seattle wage law will have. It is a better snapshot than say looking at Denmark or Finland.

I would like to state that I understand the viewpoint from both prospective. I've implemented a career change this year and quit my job as a manager. I am going to school to become an RN. I went from making $60,000+ a year to $10.50 an hour and I can only work 24 hours a week. Nursing school is very intense and I am unable to work more hours. I'm in the hole about $2000 a month and don't qualify for any government aid because of my assets. I also don't qualify for student loans nor government grants as I have too many credit hours completed and only qualify for financial aid if I am earning a graduate or higher. So I do understand how hard and impossible it is to support a family on $8 or even $10 an hour especially without government assistance. I do get to test out the Affordable Care Act next year and get a tax credit for that.

They won't do a good job because they can work at McDonalds? McDonalds is grueling work. Besides, they could pick and choose from whatever minimum wage job they're attracted to.

Where did I ever state "they" wouldn't do a good job. Another example of someone reading something that was never stated and that is even after you quoted me. I will clarify what I meant. A Certified Nursing Aid that is responsible for Alzheimer and other vulnerable elderly patients which includes bathing, lifting, perineal care (washing private parts), changing diapers, toileting, feeding and so on is much harder than a fast food or retail job. I know because I've done all three. My point is that jobs that require very specific job skills and further education may suffer if the same can be earned at less demanding jobs with fewer skill sets needed. Do you disagree and if so explain without generalizations.

I should also say that if Minimum wage goes up then other wages, let's say $15-$20 should also go up somewhat.

And what is that "somewhat" amount? A teacher that is required to have four years of higher education, take four certification exams, and complete two semesters of teaching should earn the same as a 18 year high school student at Mcdonald? $15 an hour equivalent is about $30k a year with no overtime. A starting teacher depending on the state and county can vary at $28,000- $36,000. Pension plans for teachers are being threaten and the hours teachers put in is more than what the typical person thinks (lesson plans, grading, conferences ect...)

The main point I'm making is that the problem with income disparity isn't as simple as raising minimum wage. And the argument that other wages will rise or should rise is not valid unless you can show me proof of that happening here in America. Hence, the reason I'm interested in seeing the outcome in Seattle over the next few years. I'm in agreement a person should be able to support themselves on a full-time job regardless of job.
